Hand or machine wash in cold water. Flat or line dry - skip the dryer. Because the cotton is unprocessed, expect about 7–10% shrinkage after the first wash, but the knit stretches back out with use, so this isn't permanent.
Using & Storing Your Produce Bags:
- Best for thick-skinned produce such as potatoes, onions, garlic, apples, oranges, cucumbers
- Produce that needs airflow (onions, potatoes, garlic) can hang in the bag in your pantry - just keep onions and potatoes in separate bags, since they will rot quicker if left together
- Tomatoes and avocados do best left out on the counter to continue ripening
- Ripe produce can go in the fridge in the bag for longer storage
- Tip: if it wasn't refrigerated at the store, don't refrigerate it at home

Will these bags shrink in the wash?
A little bit the first time: about 7–10%, since the cotton is unprocessed and not pre-washed. The knit stretches back with normal use, so it's not a permanent change.
Can I wash these in hot water?
Stick to cold water, either hand- or machine-washed, and skip the dryer. Dry them flat or on a line.
Are these strong enough for heavier produce like potatoes?
Yes. We've used these for months, adding produce as heavy as potatoes, onions, and apples to them, and the seams and drawstrings have held up great. The bags are particularly good for thick-skinned produce.
How do I use the tare weight tag at checkout?
Each bag has its exact empty weight printed on its fabric tag. The cashier weighs the bag with its produce, then should subtract the tare weight.
Can I store produce in the bag after I get home?
Yes! Hang bags with onions, garlic, or potatoes for airflow (keep onions and potatoes separate), leave tomatoes and avocados out at room temp, and refrigerate already-ripe produce in the bag to prevent moisture buildup.
Are these only for produce?
No - the mesh bags also work well for washing delicates, organizing kids' toys, beach trips, or any general hanging storage.
