Our Story
Some decisions build slowly until you can’t ignore them anymore. For me, that decision was leaving my corporate job after years of uncovering threats to our health and the planet. Long before that, when my kids were little, I began researching the hidden toxins in our home, well before they gained the mainstream attention they have now. Teflon pans and plastic toys were the first to go, and over time that personal mission grew as I sought out safer ingredients and healthier alternatives.
In those early days, I was focused on finding products free from phthalates, synthetic fragrances, and BPA. I ordered from multiple websites, tried everything out at home, and quickly set aside anything that didn't work well. As I learned more about plastic pollution, I added sustainability to my criteria.
But it wasn’t until I came across the research on microplastics that everything shifted. Unlike specific chemicals, these tiny plastic particles are everywhere, showing up in our food, water, and even our bodies. New studies link them to serious health issues, from hormone imbalances to dementia. That was the final straw. Realizing that our everyday consumption habits harm both the environment and our health pushed me to act by opening this shop to help others make safer, lower-waste choices. I want this to be a trusted, one-stop shop resource - a place where busy people don’t need to research every ingredient.
Plastic-Free Provisions is committed to sourcing from North Carolina whenever possible. You’ll find local makers such as Fillaree alongside other small‑batch companies from the Carolinas. We choose suppliers who minimize retail packaging, and we prefer GOTS- or FSC‑certified companies whenever possible. For shipping, we use recycled cardboard boxes and plastic‑free tape, and local deliveries come with minimal packaging. Our unique local refill service brings products directly to your door and restocks the bottles you already have - a practical way to keep your essentials topped up without extra packaging.
We plan to launch our own products too, like conditioning oil for wooden utensils and a simple, refillable laundry detergent. Every item you’ll find on our site has been thoughtfully chosen to cut waste and perform beautifully.
Our planet is finite, and plastic outlasts us all. Small changes add up: swapping just one bottle, one utensil, or one brush makes a difference. I hope you’ll join me - follow along on Instagram or Facebook, and sign up for my emails where I share tips, product updates, and stories from others working toward the same goal. Together, we can grow a community that makes sustainable choices simpler and more accessible for everyone.
