The bamboo handle can go in your compost. The bristles are made from castor bean oil, a plant-based nylon. It's still a type of plastic, but it's the best option we've found, and it cuts out about 95% of the plastic in a conventional toothbrush. When it's time to replace your brush, pull the bristles out with pliers and toss them in the trash, then compost the handle.
