Plastic-Free Kitchen Swaps We Recommended in the WSJ

We were quoted along with several professional chefs in The Wall Street Journal's Buy Side. They highlighted the best plastic-free and low-plastic kitchen tools, including two of our swaps that we personally rely on to keep plastic out of everyday cooking.

Our Picks

A non-coated stainless steel swap for your rice cooker

Most dedicated rice cooker inserts are lined with a nonstick coating, making them hard to recommend if you're trying to avoid plastic contact and shedding into food. Instead, we pointed the WSJ towards the Instant Pot Duo 7-in-1. Its cooking bowl and lid interior are stainless steel - so that's all your food touches - plus rice cooks in it perfectly. It's also able to saute, pressure steam, slow cook, and more. Worth noting: the outside of the lid uses BPA-free polypropylene, so it's not a fully plastic-free appliance, but it's a good upgrade over a nonstick-coated pot.

A stainless steel container for your Vitamix

If you already own a Vitamix blender, we recommended swapping the plastic pitcher for the 48-ounce stainless-steel blender container. It handles the same soups, dips, and smoothies, goes in the dishwasher without the risk of plastic flaking or holding onto stains and odors, and lasts way longer. The lid is still BPA-free plastic, but everything that touches your food and blades is stainless steel.
